Reduction Mammaplasty or Breast Reduction
- Procedure - Decreases the size of the breast by removal of skin and
breast gland tissue, raising the breasts and nipples to a more favorable
position on the chest, leaving them smaller, lighter and firmer.
- Length - 2 to 4 hours.
- Anaesthesia - General.
- In/Outpatient - Outpatient.
- Side effects - Swelling, Soreness, Bruising, Numbness nipple and breast
skin (rarely permanent), Bruising.
- Risks -
Infection,
Bleeding, Fluid collection, Excessive or widened scars, Conspicuous scars,
Skin or tissue loss, Delayed or Poor wound healing, Uneven position or size
of the breasts or nipples, Loss of breast feeding ability, Need for revision
surgery.
- Recovery - Back to work 1 to 2 weeks. Strenuous activities - 4 to
6 weeks. Fading of scars several months to a year.
