Otoplasty or Ear Pinning Surgery

  • Procedure - Set prominent ears back closer to the head, or reduce the size of large ears.
  • Length - 2 to 3 hours.
  • Anaesthesia - General, or local with IV sedation.
  • In/Outpatient - Outpatient.
  • Side effects - Soreness, Swelling, Redness, Numbness.
  • Risks - Infection of cartilage, Excessive scarring, Blood clots that may require drainage, Mismatched or artificial appearing ears,  Recurrence of protrusion, Need for revision surgery.
  • Recovery - Back to work 1 week.  Strenuous activity or contact sports 1 to 2 months.  Usual activity 6 weeks or more.
